I was reading a few post here and there, reviews and such and I was struck by one thing. People complaining about how the Dead were better in this or that era. That the last years
94 & 95 are pretty much a waste of time. Garcia sick the lads less then inspiring etc... I am referring in this case to those that were at the shows...STOP IT!! please. I would almost give a limb if I could see the Boys all together in any ERA!! 95 or 75,87 or 77, it would have been wonderful to see any show. I get that the playing was not as jamming as in the past, but be grateful you got to see any show!

There are a few dimensions to this. I get way more pleasure from listening to the dead in the 60s and 70s than I do after that; it's just my experience, and it's many others' experience as well. But I also agree that some people are very negative about the later eras, and while people are of course allowed to harbor any opinions they want, I don't like the idea that people who enjoy the later era a lot are being discounted. I like seeing different opinions, as you do, and someone favoring a particular era is always interesting because everyone has different reasons. But when people are scornful/blameful of the dead for what they did at the end of their career should always try to express themselves in a positive, inclusive way.

In all my years on the bus, starting in 1966, I have been amused by the after the fact measurement of the moving now of a GD show. I never went away dissapointed. There was always something new and interesting to consider, even in the late years. For me, the music never stopped, it always was the best they could come up with on any given day, and THAT was better than most bands; even for a so called not so good set or show. So, I'll be there in Worcster MA for two nights, missing Jerry of course and considering how strange it is to be 65 years of age, still long of hair and awaiting magic to take place.

Amen my brother. Except it will be Greensboro for me, and only one night. I am a little(not much)younger than you,but still have my long hair that I was told over 40 years ago was "just a phase". I too will be missing Jerry, but the magic lives on.

My point is that you've posted a message to folks that if they have an opinion about a particular show, song, or
member of the band, that they should hold their tongue. I think YOU should be grateful that people take time out of their day to educate people and share ideas or thoughts. You're obviously having a bad day and I can appreciate that. But don't tell people who hold a vast reservoir of info to keep their opinioins to themselves. I learn things here, and they're not always pleasant lessons.

hey man sorry if that's how it came across but that not what i meant at all. I appreciate the opinions and experiences of all especially the Deadheads that got to follow them. What I was trying to say was that people who have seen the band should be happy they saw them... no matter what,is that a bad thing?

It is certainly not a bad thing to encourage people to take a look at what they have and be thankful for it. Maybe I took your post as an assault on the opinion, rather than the spirit. People are negative about certain things, but I think it's a by-product of being spoiled with all that we have acess to.I'm not sure when you got on board, but it was this very week of '89 for me. The two shows at the arena here in Pittsburgh. I went in with an open mind and left with an insatiable hunger for more. No matter what era it comes from. Keep on listening and learning. That's what it's about for me. I've listened and learned with our little exchange and for that I am Grateful.

Peace
